A museum app: tours, audio guide and exhibitions
The visitor tour, the audio guide, exhibitions, opening hours and messages to visitors: the app for a museum, a castle or a heritage site, and what it costs.

A museum app accompanies visitors before, during and after their visit: the tour room by room, the audio guide on their own phone, temporary exhibitions and practical information. It starts at €19 a month.
An old-style audio guide means devices to buy, charge, disinfect and repair. Your visitors already have a phone and earphones in their pocket. The app turns them into a visitor guide.
Why a museum needs an app
A small museum, a castle or a heritage site doesn’t have the budget for a custom-built app. Yet its visitors expect the same experience as in a major institution. An app in your name offers it for the price of a subscription.
What a museum app contains
The visitor tour
Room by room or work by work: a photo, a short text, a detail to look for. Visitors go at their own pace.
The audio guide
Audio commentaries, published like podcasts, to listen to on site or at home. One track per room or per work, with a section per language for visitors from further afield.
Exhibitions and events
The temporary exhibition, guided tours, late openings, children’s workshops: each date has its page, with a link to the ticket office.

Practical information
Hours, prices, access, accessibility, cloakroom, shop, café: everything people ask at the front desk, available before they even arrive.
School and group visits
A booking form for teachers and groups: date, numbers, level, theme. See how to create a form in the app.
Extending the visit
After the visit, the app stays: visitors hear about the next exhibition, replay a commentary, share a work. See our advice on push notifications.
Where to start
- Practical information: hours, prices, access.
- A tour of ten must-see works: short text, photo, audio commentary.
- The current exhibition: with guided tour dates.
A tour of ten works is enough to start. Visitors don’t want to read everything: they want to be shown the essentials and told a story. You’ll then enrich the tour room by room, and create themed tours: for families, for a one-hour visit, for enthusiasts.
Commentaries can be recorded by staff, a professional guide or a guest artist. A human voice, with its personality, makes the visit far livelier than text read on screen.
Getting visitors to install the app
A QR code at the front desk, a link in your emails and a word at the right moment are enough. It’s all explained in how to get your app installed. Put the QR code at the ticket desk and at the entrance to the first room, with the message “Your free audio guide”.
